Our unique Philips GEMINI GXL PET/CT system has both PET and multi-slice CT
components that can help us diagnose or track many different medical
conditions.
The current standard of care relies on physical examination, mammography and/or ultrasound and fine needle aspiration to diagnose breast cancer. Philips' GEMINI GXL PET/CT scans can show whether a lump is benign or malignant.
It can also prove to be a useful addition to mammography. Specifically, patients with breast implants, dense breasts and others may benefit from using the PET/CT system to look for lesions in the breast.
Patient care advantages:
- With the push of a button, both PET and CT information can be
obtained at the same time- only one appointment is necessary.
- The GEMINI GXL's unique, open design allows staff to interact with patients during the exam, preventing the claustrophobic effect that a completely enclosed gantry can have on some patients.
- Relatively short acquisition times (about 30 minutes)
Clinical advantages:
- Provides detailed diagnostic information not available from other imaging tests
- Allows earlier detection of disease with fewer invasive diagnostic procedures
- Provides improved staging of the disease, better monitoring of cancer recurrences
- Tracks results of treatment therapy more effectively
- Provides detailed diagnostic information not available from other imaging tests
